Happy New Year! I recently had the joy of visiting past clients and seeing their homes in action. Kitchens in use, photos of pasta being made with friends, gingerbread rolled out with little nieces and nephews - creating everyday moments. It never gets old and is the most rewarding part of my work.
So what does 2026 look like for THD? Later this year I’ll be spending time immersed in international design, recharging my creativity and taking a visit to Salone del Mobile in Milan, one of the world’s largest design fairs. Closer to home, my project calendar is now largely allocated, with capacity for only a few new projects this year. If you’re considering a build or renovation and starting to think about what’s possible in 2026 or beyond, now is a good time to begin that conversation to allow space for decisions to be made well.
More than ever, my focus is on thoughtful, site-responsive homes that are designed well, from the beginning. This approach is shaped by a belief that homes can - and should - do better than bare minimum standards. Taking the time to understand how a house will perform, how it will feel day to day, and how decisions made early ripple through the rest of the project. Here at home, that thinking has paid for itself. Despite some very warm days recently, we haven’t needed cooling, because the house is designed to cross-ventilate, provide shade and work with the site, rather than against it. A recent addition of gorgeous, sheer curtains from ZAB has further improved shading and acoustics, while softening the space.
I’m excited about the year ahead, the projects taking shape, and the continued opportunity to work closely with clients who value collaboration and considered design.
